One great way to keep your motivation high is to keep a work out journal. You can record things like how well your workout went, ideas for future workouts, and how much you weight. By writing down your thoughts, and charting your progress, you'll have a much better chance of success.
You'll find these methods can really help you to achieve your fitness goals. Create some goals, do what you like, and keep a journal. Success will be imminent.

Some of my favorite healthy snacks are tuna pouches, protein bars, peanut bags, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and deli meats. By eating five times per day, you'll keep your body well fed and satisfied throughout the day without overeating. You will also have the necessary fuel needed for your workout. Equally important is a reduction in sugar cravings from keeping your insulin level stable throughout the day.
It's easy to forget that everyone has abs. The problem is that most people have too much fat on top to ever see them underneath. So instead of focusing on doing a billion crunches, you should focus on burning fat during your workouts. Some of the best ways to burn fat in a short amount of time are sprint interval training, 45-60 minutes of moderate intensity cardio, and high intensity interval training workouts. Mixing up your routine is crucial for continued results.

I was at a point in my life where I was sick and tired of being unfit and sluggish. I had been quite active during my younger years, competing in athletics and cross country events, but now in my late-twenties I was in bad shape.

Over time I had become glued to my computer screen, whether it was for business or pleasure, and concentrated more on work than any forms of exercise. This was in combination of a bad diet. I would skip meals and eat way too much junk food because it was fast and easy. I lacked the motivation I had in my younger years and it started to show physically.

So I decided to start making some changes. I wanted to loss body fat and drop weight, as well as tone up. I had gained a good 10 kilograms since I was a teenager and was determined to lose it and actually get muscular for once. Cardiovascular exercise seemed like the no- brainer approach to achieve this goal, so I started to run.

I didn't realise how unfit I was until I started jogging daily around my local football field. It was hard work, but after the first few weeks I started to get better. I went every day, and continued to improve in not only in pace, but also the distance I was running.

To my surprise, I wasn't really losing much weight. I had dropped 3 kilograms after a month of daily running. I thought this type of cardiovascular exercise would also reduce my body fat so I would look more toned, but this wasn't happening either. I was at a bit of a loss, because I had just assumed running would be an ideal way of reaching this goal I had created.

So I turned to the internet like most people do and at first it almost made things worse. There were so many types of information online that I was baffled. I wasn't really too sure on how to proceed or what to follow, so I started to search for things that had worked for other people.

I found an e-book called Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle which seemed to have great praise for actually working, without fads or secrets. It focused on hard work and good information to maximise weight lose and muscle growth and I was instantly intrigued.
While a massive e-book (around 300 pages), it was broken into easy to manage chapters and I started to learn things I had no idea about. The biggest thing I learned was diet is just, if not more important, than the exercise you undertake.

While running I wasn't building much muscle or losing weight because I was still eating poorly. I thought the act of running itself would be enough to burn of the calories I was consuming. Even though I had cut out fast food, I was still not regular with meals (skipping breakfast frequently) and I was not eating the right foods.

Even more I learnt that metabolism was a major factor in burning body fat. I was very uneducated on this topic, but Burn the Fat showed me the best ways to turbo boost your metabolic rate. The biggest misconception that I see among bodybuilders, and those who want to lose belly fat in general, is the belief that by training solely your abs you'll get them to burn all the flab around them, and come to the surface. Well, it does make sense after all, Right?!! ... Wrong again!

When it comes to burning body fat you can't just attack the muscle group in order to get the fat tissue that surrounds it to disappear; It just doesn't work that way. I don't mean to belittle abs exercises, but as long as you have a big body fat percentage they aren't going to help you much. If anything, by training abs your belly will get even bigger.
Don't get me wrong, you'll get a great set of big solid abs but they'll still be covered by your stomach fat. You probably already have one beneath all that blubber, but what you need is an effective way to lose the stubborn fat.

It is common knowledge that if you want to burn fat you need to dispose of more calories than what you ingest.
To do that you can start with a well-balanced diet. Nothing fancy! Eat healthy low-glycemic carbs, unsaturated fats, and enough protein (Internet is full of diet advice and it is pretty easy to customize a diet according to your plan if you do enough research). As long as your calories intake is on the negative your body will be using stored body fat to cover his needs.

But most importantly, if you want to burn fat through exercising then you need to forget all the myth you have been fed about sit-ups and crunches. While these exercises are good for developing abdominal muscles, they are almost useless when it comes to burning belly fat. This is due to the size of your abdominal muscle group. It'd be much more effective to burn fat if you attack larger muscle group through compound weight training exercises.

Not only do weight training exercises require more effort (calories) to perform, but there have been studies demonstrating how you can still be burning fat even after working out. "Afterburn" is the name of this phenomenon. I don't want to bore you with a lot of details, so just google it to know how it works.

Let me tell you that you are not the first (and certainly not the last) individual to have problems with keeping a good work out schedule.

I am going to write up a very common work out schedule in this article that almost every body uses nowadays. Some individuals usually work out 3-4 days in a week, working mostly on a certain body part, or two, for each day and relaxing the next. Here is what an average work out schedule looks like:

Monday

This is the day most people would train their chest and triceps. A normal schedule would appear like this:

  • Warm up on treadmill or any cardio machine for about 15 minutes
  • Followed by lower ab workouts (at least 3-5 workouts)
  • Flat Bench Press (3 x 10-12)
  • Seated 1-arm Dumbbell Extensions (3 x 10 with both arms)
  • Incline Bench Press (3 x 10)
  • Lying Barbell Extensions (3 x 10-12)
  • Decline Bench Press (3 x 10)
  • Seated 2-arm Dumbbell Extensions (3 x 10)
  • Warm down on treadmill or any cardio machine for 15-20 minutes

Tuesday

People would probably let their chest and triceps muscles rest this day and focus on legs and shoulder workouts which would go like this:

  • Warm up on training bike or treadmill for 15 minutes
  • Followed by upper/middle ab workouts (at least 2-4 workouts)
  • Barbell Squats (3 x 10-12)
  • Dumbbell Shoulder Presses (3 x 10)
  • Barbell Lunges (3 x 20)
  • 2-arm Side Deltoid Lateral Raises (3 x 10)
  • Warm Down on training bike or treadmill for 20 minutes

Wednesday

No working out today. Take in a lot of water and eat healthy.

Thursday

Since the chest and triceps muscles have already been rested long enough, most people tend to work their back and biceps after their rest day.

  • Warm up on rowing machine or treadmill for 15 minutes
  • Followed by oblique workouts (at least 2-3 workouts)
  • Bent Over Rows (3 x 10-12)
  • Pull-Ups (Overhand Grip 3 x 10)
  • Barbell Curls (3 x 10)
  • Deadlifts (3 x 10)
  • Dumbbell Curls (3 x 10 for each arm)
  • Dumbbell Rows (3 x 12 for each arm)

Friday

Use the last weekday for some fat burning circuit training or high intensity interval training and take a rest for both days during the weekend.

Please remember that this is a normal type of schedule which most people use. You can perform these workouts either in the morning or the evening for whichever timing suits you best.
